SS Kamloops

This shipwreck is one of the most spectacular i've laid my eyes on. Lake Superior has no mussels so the wrecks are very clean. The SS Kamloops was last seen in December 1927 and went missing. Some bodies were found in spring and June 1928 and some shipwreck debris off Isle Royale. Today she sits preserved in time in 265ft of water on her starboard side. Her cargo of shoes, tar paper, farm equipment, barrels, toothpaste and lifesavers can be seen pouring out onto the lakebed. The engine room is a grave to an unidentified crewman who remains inside. There is so much to explore on this wreck. We got several dives on her this trip. Conditions were calm but unfortunately the thermocline went away and bottom temps were 38f and it was only 42f on the surface making for very cold and difficult decompression
